Inspiring Change

(Our Living Room, Last Spring)

When I decided last spring that I wanted to move all of the chairs into the living room, I didn't know that it would receive such positive attention. I had always planned on having the chairs in the room, but when we got here (with the chairs, coincidentally) they didn't fit in the way that I had planned thanks to the many doors and fireplace in the room. I still love the look of this, but recently I've been inspired by several great designer rooms that focus on the dark look of leather and decorative "clutter" with one very different aspect. Can you spot it?

Have you guessed it yet? Yes, it's the cream backdrop. I love my green and Scott does too, but after a while change is necessary, and a dose of the neutral can be quite revitalizing. So, with a little luck, I'll have a photo for you by the end of the week and you'll all have an opportunity to weigh in on the finished product. I hope you're as pleased as we are.

  1. Your living room looks as comfortable to curl up with a book in as it does to entertain. Can't wait to see the changes.

  2. Something fun and beautiful to look forward to .... how are you enjoying Design Star this season? For me, it's lacking something and I can't quite figure out what. Maybe Clive? Maybe the designer mix? Maybe the challenges themselves?

  4. I think either is fine =- the dark walls are a cozier look than the light colored walls.

  5. I think your living room is wonderful in either color. I just painted a green wall a cream color and it really lightens things up. I love the industrial cart you have as a coffee table!

  10. Oh geez, now I'm going to have to copy you again and paint my living room. I just sat down after being inspired to fix up my patio! I think it's a great idea. Your room is lovely now, but why not do a switch. Your inspiration pics are beautiful. I thought the common thread was the live flowers and orchids...for a sec.
